The New I-64 Design/Build

Owner: Missouri Department of Transportation
Client: Parsons

This fast paced Project included a complete reconstruction of I-64/Hwy40  and its associated appurtenances. This $535 million Capital Project is located over a 12 mile stretch of Missouri’s Interstate.  ABNA provided engineering design including structural, drainage and utility designs.  The structural design included the I-170 flyways, several bridges and a pedestrian tunnel ; drainage design entailed accommodating flow for the new pavement including several retention ponds; and utility design entailed relocations for more than 20 individual utilities within the corridor such as for fiber, cable, sewer, water, electric and gas.  In addition, ABNA provided inspectors and field technicians during the infrastructure’s construction.


New Berkely/McCleur High School

Owner: Ferguson-Florissant School District
Client: Kozeny Wagner, Inc.

ABNA conducted construction observation and quality control services for 8.5 acres of site grading (including 3 acres of sports fields), 1,200ft of storm sewers, 820 ft of sanitary sewer, building demolition and hazardous waste monitoring.  Duties included soil testing, storm & sanitary pipe installation inspection, settlement gauge monitoring, field documentation and demolition inspection. This 800 student state-of-the-art facility features a two-story 185,000 sq. ft. building, a separate academic wing, an indoor swimming pool, a 900-seat gymnasium, a 500-seat auditorium and all new indoor and outdoor sports facilities.



MSD CSO Interceptor & Outfall Modifications

Owner: Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District

ABNA was responsible for seven (7) sewer outfall structures supported on steel piles and provided steel sheet piling for erosion protection along the Mississippi River from south St. Louis to the Merchant’s RR Bridge. The CSO’s are being designed in accordance with the Overflow Regulation System (ORS) and the interceptors inspected to help provide alternatives & recommendations to MSD. All efforts were coordinated with the COE – St. Louis District.


IL Statewide Sign Structure Inspection Program

Owner: Illinois Department of Transportation

Under the 6th year of our recently renewed contract, ABNA is providing Phase II engineering services for the planning, organizing and detailing structural inspections of various types of sign trusses and bridge mounted structure. Inspections data includes rating of all components, evaluation of conditions and preparation of inspection reports which prioritize and summarize repair needs. Services include on-site truss and bridge mounted investigations, determining thickness of supports with ultrasonic instrumentation, preparing solutions for construction problems involving structural designs and making recommendations.

MSD Fenton Wastewater Treatment Plant

Owner: Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District 

 ABNA provided Construction Management on this $3.6 million Capital Improvement Project to renovate the existing Fenton Wastewater Treatment Plant to meet new treatment regulations.     The facility will have the capacity to process 6.75 million gallons of sewage per day when complete.  

The improvements include the addition of a new east clarifier and a new west clarifier, fine screen replacements, upgrade to the aeration system and new piping and instruments to expand the plant’s capacity.  Improvements also include biofilter upgrades to better handle odor control.  To facilitate these improvements, ABNA was responsible for the construction survey which consisted of Controls Surveys, Engineering Surveys, Boundary, Title & Easement Search Reports.  ABNA provided monitoring of each phase of the construction activities to insure compliance with the contract documents. 

ABNA’s Construction Management Crew was on site facilitating the project by inspecting the major components of the clarifier construction such as excavation and backfilling, piping of the underslab and yard surroundings, SCADA controls, concrete base and wall construction, MEP installation and control setup, sludge pump valves, as well as implementation of the biofilter structure and the aeration system which included a temporary aeration system until change over.         


MoDOT Route 367 Reconstruction

Owner: Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT)
Client: CMT

This congestion relief project to convert Route 367 to an uninterrupted freeway from I-270 to New Jamestown Road converted the existing outer roads (Lusher and Benham) to one-way outer roads. Texas turnarounds were introduced at four major intersections, new bridges were constructed at the intersections and vertical profile of the new alignment dramatically changed. The project also removed all traffic lights along mainline Route 367. ABNA provided phase III engineering services including construction inspection, materials testing and construction layout.
