Lambert International Airport’s Lindbergh Tunnel

    ABNA provided civil engineering design services for a 2,100-foot long, 6-lane roadway tunnel beneath the new runway and taxiways installed to support the Lambert St. Louis International Airport Expansion Program. ABNA provided structural design engineering services for a 2,100-foot long, 6 lane roadway tunnel beneath the new runway and taxiways installed to support the Lambert St. Louis International Airport Expansion Program.
    Civil design included earthwork and subgrade improvement; paved tunnel approaches and roadway alignments and grades; surface and subsurface longitudinal and transverse drainage systems; and north and south tunnel portals.


Lambert International Airport Runway 11R 29L

Client: City of St. Louis

This design project will yield a new 9,000-foot long x 150-foot wide Portland Cement Concrete runway (Runway 12R-30L) and two 75-foot wide parallel taxiways. The runway and taxiways are designed for Category III approaches and to accommodate aircraft Airfield Design Group (ADG) Group V. Additional design components include the runway and taxiway lighting and electrical distribution system, a deicing apron at each end of the new runway, supporting deicing facilities such as a glycol collection system, the airfield perimeter fence and security system, and airfield service roads. Each apron is designed to simultaneously accommodate three Boeing 757-300 aircraft. As one of the design team members, ABNA Engineering, Inc. was responsible for grading, paving, sub-surface drainage, pavement marking, and site development for vault buildings including retaining walls, and alignments and plan-profile for various electric and communications duct banks both existing and proposed runways and taxiway complexes.


Cypress/SuperPark Parking Facility Design/Build 

Owner: Lambert St. Louis International Airport
Client: R. G. Brinkman Construction Co.
This project involved the design of a 35-acre parking area that includes a 3.5-acre detention basin, customer service facility, vehicle maintenance facility, and passenger waiting areas. ABNA’s Surveyors initially performed a limited topographic verification by collecting elevation shots on selected existing ground locations. Working with a conceptual design provided by the City of St. Louis and using the surveyed and field-verified base maps, ABNA prepared preliminary and final design plans for proposed grading, paving, detention, and drainage improvements. ABNA worked to optimize the parking area and roadway pavement sections, based on an assessment of alternatives to the concept as related to design life and material and construction costs. Additional considerations were driveway entrance locations and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements at appropriate locations. The design work also included the submittal of preliminary plans, specifications, and related documents for review by the City of St. Louis and St. Louis MSD (MSD).

University of MO-Columbia Surgery Tower

ABNA oversaw preliminary design for site layout, loading ducts and building connection pathways. Additionally ABNA analyzed impact of utilities on the project and owner confirmed prospect of relocating existing utilities under building foot print. Another project consideration was the utilization of disconnected utilities after parking garage is demolished. 




Habitat for Humanity St. Louis Urban Development Design

Owner: Habitat for Humanity, St. Louis

ABNA provided field reconnaissance, survey and civil design for nearly 30 LEED Platinum certified homes with an additional 24 currently under construction. These new homes incorporate green concepts that are not yet common to St. Louis such as Geothermal Heating and Rain Gardens. The partnership of Habitat’s efforts and ABNA’s rain garden design which incorporate water purification and rain harvesting into the landscape are helping to shape policy for the local sewer district, which has authority for water conveyance for two counties in the region. These homes have provided a dramatic transformation of a community that was overrun with vacant properties and has also provided an opportunity to educate new homeowners on their environmental footprint and the importance of living environmentally conscience
